Cottages in Lincolnshire

To some, the thought of cottages in Lincolnshire can conjure up a vision of a damp, unkempt building, with intermittent electricity in the middle of nowhere.

Well, self-catering cottages in Lincolnshire couldn’t be further from the truth! Although it is possible to rent one in the ‘middle of nowhere’, if this is what you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind.

You can stay, for example, in one of the many delightful thatched cottages in Lincolnshire when touring around. They come in all shapes and sizes and will varying facilities. They can be self contained on their own, part of a ‘community’ of individual status, or even a converted country home with 11 bedrooms and indoor swimming pool!

The main allure of a self-catering accommodation is that it falls midway between a hotel and holiday home park. They tend to be self contained and on their own property, many are converted farmhouses, and of course the single biggest attraction is that you have total independence to come and go as you please. There is absolutely no timetable to adhere to, meals can be taken when you please or you can take an overnight stay elsewhere. Most, if not all accommodation is supplied with towels, bedding, crockery, cutlery and sometimes even toiletries, making them an ideal choice.

The Wolds, designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty, and still remaining undiscovered, consist of rolling hills, deep valleys and quiet streams, quite a contrast to other parts of the county with its flat fenlands.

The county’s minor roads offer delightful drives through picturesque and lightly populated areas, and there are many holiday homes to rent in and around the Wolds. The area is still very much a casual driver's paradise. Sparsely populated, it has countless empty lanes and byways linking hidden hamlets to villages, and market towns to seaside resorts, all steeped in variety and history, the perfect location for a holiday cottage.

Skegness and Ingoldmells are extremely popular resorts. Places such as Moggs Eye and Crook Bank are an altogether more tranquil coastal alternative and have some of the finest beaches in the United Kingdom. Louth remains one of the most perfectly preserved Georgian towns in England, and of course, no visit to the county would be complete without seeing Lincoln's cathedral, which is simply stunning.
