The county could almost be described as having been designed for cyclists!
There’s an unrivalled choice between empty lanes, bridle paths and tracks, towpaths, all as easy or as taxing terrain as you could desire. And when you sprinkle in the spectacular scenery and friendly villages, and you’ve got all you need for a truly fantastic break cycling in Lincolnshire !
Throughout the county you will see people of all ages on bikes. People come from both home and abroad to enjoy and explore this wonderful area.
The Wolds, a line of chalk hills infused with pretty hamlets, valleys, streams and rivers is one of the biggest cycle attractions for the enthusiast. Cyclists can enjoy the area at a low pace, find a welcoming pub for lunch, and then off again on their bikes. There’s also the Fens, providing miles and miles of unspoiled countryside to enjoy.
There are long-distance routes crossing the county. Whatever you’re riding, you’ll always find very useful cyclists’ maps full of information to help you enjoy your cycling in Lincolnshire to the maximum.
There are dozens of cycle routes to choose from, and even if you don’t have your own bicycle, there are plenty of towns where you can hire bikes.
The quiet country lanes and friendly villages are also perfect for families. Local tourist information centres dotted about the county can provide a very comprehensive cycle routes pack, which give full details of thirteen rides which vary from six to fifty miles in length.
There is also the “Sustrans route 1”, which as part of the national cycle network, runs from Hull to Harwich. It crosses the Humber Bridge and takes cyclists thorough the North of the county’s relatively traffic-free roads and on to the picturesque rolling Wolds.
Unlike other counties, biking in the county isn’t simply tolerated – it’s positively encouraged. Wherever you go, you’ll receive a warm welcome along the way.
