The 2008 Spilsby Show took place on Sunday 13th July. It turned out to be a fantastic day out for all of the family. A whole host of attractions were on offer, providing ample entertainment all day long. The Show turned out to be a huge success and enabled us to help so many deserving causes at our Presentation Night in 2008.
Amongst the attractions appearing at the Show, we had as always, the hugely popular Shire Horse Show, which again, was one of premier attractions in the main ring. The Shire Horse Show never disappoints, it is one of our most popular attractions, this year's event once again, provided more of the same.
The 2008 Show marked the tenth anniversary of our first Road Race, the Spilsby Show 6. We welcomed a wide variety of runners to the Show, who all battled it out to be the fastest person over the grueling 6 mile course. The Dog Show also took place once again and was as always, hugely popular. Every year, we welcome hundreds of dog owners to the showground, all hoping that their prized pooch will walk away with an award.

At midday, the Show was opened by Rod Whiting from BBC Radio Lincolnshire. We were very pleased to welcome Rod to the Show again. We also welcomed Jill and Helen from the BBC to the Show for the first time. They chatted to people and met listeners, from their very own BBC stand.
There was also the exciting prospect of the National Tug of War Competition. We first welcomed the regional heats of the National Competition to the Show in 2006, and we were delighted that the heats returned to the Show once again. Teams from all over the East Midlands competed at the Show, hoping to go through to the National Competition later in the year. We also welcomed the Kuk Sool Won Korean Martial Arts display team to the main ring for the first time. Their display proved to be a welcome addition to the ring entertainment.

The Craft and Model Tents were both bulging at the seams with a one in, one out policy in operation! These marquees never fail to deliver a huge range of varied and exciting displays. The Model Tent once again featured a whole host of bygones and die-cast models, reminding people of days gone by. There was also a huge range of matchstick models as well as a whole host of other items.
The Craft Tent meanwhile, played host to a varied selection of local crafts. Last year we welcomed a huge range of crafts and the 2008 event provided us with more of the same. The Fur and Feather marquee also returned to the 2008 Show and it proved to be a very popular display - giving our visitors the opportunity to cuddle a duck!
We were also very pleased that our Vintage Car and Motor Cycle display turned out to be so well supported. We welcomed a huge selection of vintage vehicles to the Show. We're hoping for a record amount of vehicles this year and if the current number of applications is anything to go by, this year we'll break all previous records! We also welcomed a massive selection of Trade and Charity Stands. Last year we welcomed over seventy stalls, which provided us with an interesting and varied selection of stalls selling a wide variety of goods! The Farmers Market also enabled people to sample a selection of local produce and cooked food.

The Indoor Trade marquee again housed displays from local traders and organisations, as well as housing the Flower Show, the Lincolnshire Dialect Society and much more. The Heritage Area was a new addition to the 2008 Show. This section featured displays by those people who keep alive the traditional crafts that are common in this part of the world. These included thatching, wood framing and a display by EMESS (East Midlands Earth Structure Society) about the art of building mud and stud walls.
There was plenty for the children to see and do at the 2008 event, a huge amount of colourful and fun attractions kept the kiddies entertained all day long. We welcomed two clowns who entertained the children in and amongst the SIX rides that were also at the Show. Further entertainment was provided by Robbie McMagic and Sally Novello, who were with us all day, entertaining our younger visitors!
Other attractions at last year's Show included the Friskney Bowmen and the Sarber Dog Agility Group. They conducted a demonstration in the main ring. The Southwold Hunt Hounds also joined us and gathered in the main ring over the course of the afternoon, enabling our younger visitors to meet the dogs and talk to those who look after them. The hugely popular Terrier Racing also took place.
For the first time, we welcomed a Barbers Shop Group called The Humber Belles. They were very warmly received and performed for us at the Show. We also be welcomed the Mareham-Le-Fen Silver Band to the Show as well as members of The Royal British Legion. A parade by veterans from the many conflicts that have been fought around the world took place in the main ring before we were treated to a magnificent flypast by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster Bomber - not seen at the Show for 11 years!
It was an emotional time for those veterans who were with us at the Show, as in 2008, we commemorated the 90th anniversary of the Royal Air Force being founded, along with the 90th anniversary of the end of the First World War. The Committee were honoured that The Royal British Legion joined us at the Show. We were proud to support the British Legion and at our annual Presentation Night in October 2008, a substantial donation was made to the Lincolnshire County Welfare Fund.
